Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker
“Great Coffee, Anytime”
Many users have been raving about the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker because it has several features which everyone is looking forward to. If you prefer to have your coffee ooze with a strong flavor fit to your taste, then this is the perfect coffee maker for you. The Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker produces cups of coffee which will wake up your senses whenever you feel drowsy in the morning or in any time of day. This coffee maker only uses 1,025 watts in order to have your coffee done.
Useful, efficient and convenient, the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker has a automatic shut-off function which will not let you worry about keeping an eye on the machine whenever you are busy. This machine also has a timer which you can program easily so you do not have to worry about anything at all. Another fantastic feature of the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker is its grinder which has seven coarseness settings.
Your coffee can be grinded to perfection in your own accord. If you want to have your coffee grinded fine, then the timer of Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker can be programmed to process your coffee in a span of 24 hours. The Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker also possesses a large viewing window, a steel blade which you can easily detach and a stainless steel grinding or brewing chamber – all of which a coffee aficionado should look forward to. These features make it very convenient for you to have your favorite cup of coffee with a distinctively strong taste and aroma right at your own kitchen, or even workplace.
Problems encountered with the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker
The Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker is known to sell like hotcakes in the market for its unbelievably efficient features, but however, there are still setbacks when you buy this product. As most of the users have said about other coffee makers, the grinder of the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker produces quite a loud sound whenever the coffee is being processed. Another thing to note about the coffee maker is its automatic shut-off function. Yes, this is indeed an excellent safety feature, but for most of the users, this can also be considered as a disadvantage. The automatic shut-off feature of the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker will give the users a generous supply of cold coffee when there is still an amount left in the coffee maker.

i need instruction manual for MEMB1B Melitta Mill and Brew. can’t find one.
May 5th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Good news everyone,
I found an easy replacement. It is the 12 cup Mister Coffee replacement carafe. You can find this at Walmart. The only thing is it just barely fits. You push it in with a little force. The good thing is it holds 12 cups and you don’t have to buy a new machine.
June 13th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
I need an instruction manual
July 6th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
ALSO NEED REPLACEMENT CARAFE GETTING MAD MAY NOT BUY ANOTHER MELITTA PRODUCT
August 11th, 2008 at 6:58 am
I believe you need to call to order one. According to what I currently found on their website they are only offering a replacement carafe for a different model, but then explain that you need to call their manufacturing partner to order any other replacements: https://shop.melitta.com/itemdy00.asp?T1=30+644&Cat=
I’d have your machine’s model # handy for when you call.

Good luck finding any at the phone number for Fox-International who is the supplier for Melitta. They do not have any Mill and Brew carafe either and “don’t know when …or if…they will get them in from the manufacturer” However they will take your $25.99 payment so that “if” they come in one will be sent to you immediately. But they aren’t sure when. Very disappointed in this. And we LOVE our Mill and Brew.
September 3rd, 2008 at 9:03 pm
I found a 10 cup replacement carafe at Target for $9.99.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
Buy.com lists the carafe as unavailable from the manufacturer. Odd thing is I got a replacement grinder basket no problem about a month ago…really hope I can find a carafe!
September 8th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I can’t believe I’m having so much trouble finding a replacement carafe! I guess I’m not alone. I absolutely love the coffee maker – but never thought it would be so difficult once the carafe broke.
September 13th, 2008 at 6:19 am
Have been looking for a carafe for over two months. No luck. Ours broken in transit and they were to replace. Still waiting.
September 14th, 2008 at 3:20 am
Don’t hold your breath waiting. We ordered one the beginning of june and still have not received it.
September 20th, 2008 at 10:05 pm
Just bought a ME1MSB, kept the basket and carafe from my old MEMB1B (same parts). Ummm… do I hear any offers? lol
October 1st, 2008 at 2:52 am
I’m going to Target to see if I can find the 10 cup replacement that Stephanie mentioned on the 3rd of September for $9.99. Wish me luck
October 6th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
I called the 1800 number today 1-800-233-9054. They are still on back order.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:10 am
I just spoke to a customer service rep at Fox who seemed to know what she was doing. She said they are no longer making this model and do not have any replacement parts. Sigh.
October 9th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
Is the replacement carafe at Target a Mellita product? If not, what is the make & model number?
October 9th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
At the Melitta website, you can order the replacement carafe in white. It’s very easy to take the black handle off the broken carafe and install it on the white replacement.
October 21st, 2008 at 7:29 pm
We needed a replacement carafe as well for our black mill and brew….we bought the white one from the official Melitta site and used it. You can switch out the white pieces for your black pieces by removing the small screw at the band. Very easy to do…. we are happy with Melitta once again!
October 28th, 2008 at 10:10 pm
I did the same thing Charlene did after visiting this site. I emailed Melitta and suggested they pass on this information to their customers. They responded back saying it may not be safe because you may not tighten the screw enough or get it to tight. I did it anyway, and it works great. Like new! Just be careful with the tension on the screw. : )
November 2nd, 2008 at 11:25 pm
Found a product listing at Gourmet Depot, but it’s also on backorder. Ack!

November 15th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
I look at Target, Walmart & every kitchen supply store every few weeks for a replacement carafe but can’t even find the Melitta grind & brew anywhere! I’ll try Bryan’s Mr. Coffee replacement.
November 15th, 2008 at 9:04 pm
For a copy of the instruction manual for the Melitta Mill & Brew go to:

November 17th, 2008 at 9:55 pm
Just called about an order for 2 replacement carafes and was told that this product has been discontinued and no more carafes are available. I bought 2 Melitta Mill and Brew units 2 years ago and am inclined to avoid Melitta coffee makes in future.
November 21st, 2008 at 9:54 pm
Hey All: Target & Walmart didn’t have a 10 cup replacement caraf either. We ended up tossing it and bought a Cuisinart Grind and Brew machine at Macy’s. It’s loud when it grinds, but it gets the job done & it’s programmable.
November 24th, 2008 at 5:45 pm
will NOT buy any more melitta products they cant even replace a carafe 10 cup I orded in july08 by by melitta think i will get back my 70.00 bucks i dont so but you never no.
December 6th, 2008 at 2:58 am
Your best bet is to go to the Ebay website and search for melitta products. There are generally a wide range of replacement parts for the Mill and Brew Melitta MEMB1b/w

This is the link to order a white replacement. I ordered mine and hope to switch it to black as I saved the broken one. Wife will be happy for Christmas! We bought our Mill and Brew on clearance at K-Mart for about $36 – we love it!
December 8th, 2008 at 9:08 pm
Where can you buy a basket for this machine?
December 9th, 2008 at 3:11 am
To those that are using Mr. Coffee carafes with their Mill & Brews–there’s more than a few 10-12 cup replacement carafes out there. Could you share exactly which ones fit (with a bit of a shove) the Mill and Brew?
p.s. to Mike — yes, we know, there is a link to order a white replacement. Unfortunately they are not in stock, will not be in stock and will never arrive at your home.
December 13th, 2008 at 2:43 am
I just “ordered” a replacement white carafe as well… my order status says “In the warehouse” – after reading this i’m a bit worried this is all a farce. ack. Has anyone here had a white carafe delivered successfully from Melitta recently?
Thanks!
December 14th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
Where can I actually buy this MEMB1B machine…can’t seem to find one aywhere??
December 19th, 2008 at 12:11 am
After reading the comments above, I called Fox International and ordered a MEMB1B Mill and Brew coffeemaker(yes, they had one in stock) and received it in under two weeks.
I also ordered some filter baskets, and they said they would ship those in 4 – 6 weeks.
December 19th, 2008 at 8:03 am
I love my coffee maker but broke the carafe, just like so many other people. It took some doing, but I ordered it off the web, cant remember from where. It was expensive. All the replacement carafs at Walmart, Target etc. didnt seem to fit my Mellita. What a conspiracy!
Good luck to all who need a replacement.
kp in Hawaii
December 23rd, 2008 at 2:20 am
By the way, I ordered a replacement white carafe off the melitta site – and just received it today! So they do still have white ones, for 9.99, in stock and shipping!
December 24th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I just called the number for Melita, I was informed that they no longer make the carafe for this unit. When I tried to ask where I could find a suitable one that would fit the lady hung up on me! DON’T BUY THIS UNIT!!!
December 26th, 2008 at 3:12 pm
I also called Mellita and was told that my carafe was irreplaceable and I was out of luck. I was able to order the white carafe from the website (no one on the phone seemed to know anything about this) so although it doesn’t match, my machine is still functional. It cost me around $16, including shipping, and arrived in four days.
January 4th, 2009 at 7:06 pm
I have a new black carafe, from a defective unit they wouldn’t take back. I just listed it on ebay for $1.00 plus shipping at auction or $15 buy it now. Email me through ebay, and you can have the filter basket assembly too. The basket has 2 tiny holes, where the screening was installed crooked, but it may be able to be fixed.
January 7th, 2009 at 7:31 am
Just checked back and found where could download manual for my Melitta. Thanks Mike Hedrick! Also, I have a black machine, didn’t have and couldn’t find carafe anywhere; found a white one at unclaimed baggage store in Scottsboro, AL, doesn’t match but, works great.
January 10th, 2009 at 4:12 pm
Does anyone know if the filter basket for a MEMB1B is the same as the one for a MEMB1 Mill and Brew?
thanks,
Terry
January 14th, 2009 at 4:30 pm
I contacted Melitta directly at their 888 customer service number and got my replacement cafafe. The 800 contact number in my MEMB MSN direct manual is WORTHLESS. After several months telling me the carafe was on back-order, they finally said it was discontinued and not available. I understand both carafe and filter basket are interchangeable on the MEMB models.
January 14th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
I got the replacement carafe in about a week.
January 14th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
Mine is black.
January 15th, 2009 at 6:32 am
We need a Melitta carafe. The quality of the material that it was made from is of course fragile but one the scale of fragility it is toooo fragile. I question whether this would pass any consumer reports test. Based on what I’ve read I expect the Melitta people to be unemployed and out of business due to their customer no service….disappointed and disgusted.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:22 pm
FYI – I was just informed that the carafe is no longer being produced for the MEMB1 model. Customer service also informed me that there is no suggestion for an alternate replacement available. So wasteful to have to throw out the machine and get a new one.
January 23rd, 2009 at 4:28 pm
After reading back in the posts – I realized that I might try to call Meritta direct. They said that they DO have the carafe but it is only available in white.
January 28th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Like most of you, I need a black replacement carafe for the MEMB model. (Mine broke after 2 years). I called both the 800 number in the manual and the 888 number Cal suggested. Both places tell me they are no longer available EXCEPT in white. May suck it up and get a white one because I love the machine and invested $25 about a year ago for a second grinding/brewing basket.
January 29th, 2009 at 5:19 pm
I decided to call the 888 number, order the white replacement carafe, and switch out the hardware from my broken black one (it is one screw – should be easy). Melitta waived the S&H changes since they could not supply me with a black carafe!
February 6th, 2009 at 3:01 am
Received my white replacement carafe yesterday. Replaced the handle in about 2 minutes. All is well again!
February 7th, 2009 at 8:18 pm
Thank you all for your informative (and current) posts. I actually have a white unit and today dropped a heavy glass on the carafe and shattered it. Oddly enough, I was going to buy one of these for my office this past week and discovered they are no longer making them. How very sad. I am encouraged that I can get a white carafe however for my own unit. But honestly, who has customer service that isn’t open on Saturday. That is so non-customer oriented. Ahh well, perhaps it won’t be too late to order a white one..I think I’ll order two to be on the safe side!!
March 9th, 2009 at 3:51 pm
I love my Smart Mill and Brew. This is the one that receives MSN info on the screen. Weird thing is with the time change there isnt any button to change the time. I would have thought the MSN signal is where the time is received but apparently not. If you arent familar with this unit, it also gets the weather reports, sunrise and set info and even Amber alerts! And makes great coffee too.
March 13th, 2009 at 10:02 pm
Just tried both melitta website and Fox International. Both say carafe – in white or black – is discontinued no longer available. Found only 1 guy on ebay selling used one.
March 16th, 2009 at 4:29 am
I have a black carafe for the Mill and Brew I’ll sell, who wants it? Please reply here with a method to contact you.
10 cup size…the lid mechanism kept breaking on the grinder so I bought a new coffee maker. It doesn’t make as good of a cup of coffee though!
March 16th, 2009 at 5:06 am
I am interested in your carage. Mine broke today and my husband will be home from Iraq in 10 days. I need it asap! Ha. What are you asking? My zip code is 76906.

March 20th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I am searching for a replacement carafe for my Mill & Brew ME1MSB. Anyone out there have one they would like to sell? I’ve been searching other brands for a replacement carafe that may fit…any advice would be appreciated!
March 20th, 2009 at 2:14 pm
Does anyone know of a stainless steel replacement carafe that would fit the ME1MSB?

March 28th, 2009 at 2:23 pm
I am also looking for a carafe,MEMB1 in black if anyone has 1 to sell please let me know
April 4th, 2009 at 4:31 pm
If the closing mechanism breaks (mine has twice), just put something heavy on top of it (I use a rock!), but don’t block the vents. My carafe broke too. I am going to try Target. Last time Melitta send me the wrong one after 3 weeks of waiting. I can’t even remember where I ended up finally getting it.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:23 pm
I was just told that carafes are no longer being made for the mill & brew. I’m so angry that I spent so much for this coffeemaker & now it’s useless. Also tried to contact Melitta and it’s impossible. I’ll never buy another Melitta product again.
April 9th, 2009 at 3:25 pm
I also need a replacement carafe for my Mill and Brew. I have been told that I can’t get one from Melitta and I should try Fox International. I have little hope based on these posts. Has anyone recently found a replacement? This has been so frustrating, I will never buy a Melitta product again !!
April 12th, 2009 at 7:01 am
I need a new lid for the melitta – we’ve been using a bag of rice to keep it closed for years but the lid has now broken in half. Any suggestions?
April 13th, 2009 at 5:45 am
After a fruitless search to find a generic replacement carafe and not finding any available through an individual seller, I contacted Melitta directly and was persistent. I spoke with a supervisor in Consumer Relations who patiently listened to my rant and ensured me that she would resolve my complaint. She kindly explained to me that the manufacturer of the Smart Mill & Brew machine was acquired by a third party (not something that Melitta could control). Thus, these are “discontinued” models and the inventory for replacement parts is no longer available to the customer service reps who answer the 800# lines. I was thrilled that this supervisor went out of her way to help me and actually located a replacement carafe. If you love your Mill & Brew machine as much as I do, persistence pays off. It is unfortunate that the manufacturers service the warranty…not Melitta; and the Applica/Fox International customer service is one of the worst that I’ve ever had to deal with. I have been educated through this process and will definitely be on the lookout for the manufacturer name and avoid Applica/Fox International products in the future.
April 15th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
For all parts for your Melitta coffee makers and other brands, call Fox International, 1-800-738-0245. I needed a new basket and they are sending it.
April 17th, 2009 at 12:17 am
I called Fox Int’l and for the 3rd time they tell me the basket part#30640 is on back order. I told them someone ordered one yesterday and they wouldn’t believe me. If it didn’t make such good coffee I would chuck this thing in a minute.
April 17th, 2009 at 12:59 am
My sincere apologies for being misleading. Yes I did call Fox Int’l and Yes I did order the basket, I failed to mentioned it IS on back order. I also wrote to the CEO of Melitta and I am pasting the letter response I received back about the Melitta Mill & Brew which so many LOVE, including myself.
Dear Ms. XXXXXXXX:
Thank you for your e-mail. I sincerely appreciate your taking the time to contact me.
Regarding the Mill “N Brew, I agree – œ this a wonderful coffeemaker – œ and a great value. In fact, this is the machine I have at home to grind and brew my coffee.
That said, the coffeemaker business is a tough business – œ a very tough business – œ as development costs are high, lead times are long, consumer demand is difficult to predict and changes quickly, and retail margins are slim (at best!) given the pricing pressure from major US retailers.
Needless to say, we made a decision a number of years ago to focus our efforts on our coffee filter and coffee operations – œ and we closed our coffee maker production facility in Texas. At that time, we signed a licensing arrangement with another company to manufacture and sell Melitta quality units under our brand name.
Although this relationship worked well for a number of years – œ and produced such successes as the Melitta Mill “N Brew, the “Take 2″( a Consumer Reports Best Buy), and a host of other excellent machines — this is a tough business as I said. Although our partner enjoyed success with the Melitta line, in the end they had problems in their other small appliance businesses – œ and they ultimately declared bankruptcy and were acquired.
We are currently working with a new company on a replacement line of coffeemakers – œ but regrettably will not have much to offer for the next 10 months – œ as the new line is developed.
We regret any inconvenience that this has caused – œ and we appreciate your loyalty.
We are excited about the new machines in development – œ and I personally think they will set a new standard for quality and convenience – œ but not soon enough for you or for me!
Thank you for your support. I wish I had better news – œ but this is what happened.
Best Regards,
xxxxxx xxxxx
April 18th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
I am please to annouce that I contact Melitta and they promised to send me out a carafe. I will let you know the outcome
April 21st, 2009 at 7:37 pm
I received my carafe from Melitta today. I e-mailed Marty Miller the president of Melitta and his assistant told me they have a few for emergency and was nice enough to send me one. The e-mail address for their president is on their website
May 6th, 2009 at 3:21 pm
Turn your coffee maker over for a 1-800 # to talk live about replacement parts!
May 23rd, 2009 at 10:18 pm
The screen in my filter basket was tearing away from the plastic, so I tried looking for a replacement with no luck. I LOVE the coffee the machine makes, but hated the grounds that were leaking through. I was afraid I would have to chuck it, but then my clever boyfriend figured out how to fix it! He carefully used a soldering iron to melt the plastic in the area next to the screen and reattached it! It works great now!
June 8th, 2009 at 11:31 pm
I have a replacement carafe and grinder basket available for this coffee machine. Loved it, but I’ve had duck tape holding the top down on mine for too long and have decided to finally break down and get a new one. Drop me a note if you need either the carafe, filter/grinder basket and top or both.
June 9th, 2009 at 2:44 am
I’m interested in the grinder basket. Are the screens completely attached (not pulling away from the plastic)? How much do you want for the grinder basket only?
June 9th, 2009 at 7:04 pm
I really could use it my carafe is broken
June 9th, 2009 at 10:30 pm
Hi Anj,
I would love to purchase the grinder basket and carafe from you. Please reply so I know what the cost is. For shipping purposes, my ZIP is 75024. Thanks!
June 13th, 2009 at 1:31 am
I also have a cracked carafe -live in FL if that makes any diff for shipping. I’m in 33615 for ship est.
June 13th, 2009 at 10:12 pm
If you haven’t sold the grinder basket please let me know. I’m in Arizona.
June 16th, 2009 at 12:05 am
Wish I had enough to go around… I know how frustrating this is, I had to buy a new carafe and grinder basket too! I would prefer to ship both to one person, so the first interested party to email me and send payment takes it! I would take $20 for the carafe and basket plus $10 to ship via UPS so it would be insured. Please email me directly at anjmarie30@hotmail.com for Paypal information. For peace-of-mind, I have 100% positive feedback on ebay… user id is anjamatanj.
June 17th, 2009 at 1:46 am
I need the grinder/brew basket for the Melitta Grind and Brew. Model # MEMB1. Thanks for your help.
June 17th, 2009 at 4:43 pm
Haven’t heard from anyone, and I’d really like to get this stuff shipped off. I’m willing to split the items up and will accept the best offer. Thanks!
June 20th, 2009 at 4:05 pm
I’m going to list the grinder basket and carafes on ebay if anyone is interested, check there.
June 23rd, 2009 at 6:39 am
I just ordered the Mr. Coffee 10-cup Coffee Carafe
Model #ESD13E from the Gourmet Depot Co (online). Not sure if it is actually in stock or if it will fit, but I’m remaining hopeful until it gets here. I’m ready to brew a normal cup of coffee made with fresh ground beans on my MEMB1B (haven’t been able to use it since I broke the carafe a couple of days ago). I’ll post results later. Fingers are crossed
June 24th, 2009 at 12:17 am
As of 6/23/09, the Mr. Coffee 10-cup carafe #ESD13E is on backorder…2-3 weeks…?
June 24th, 2009 at 8:26 pm
Thanks to this site I read that the Mr. Coffee 12 cup Decanter (not carafe) would fit. I purchased it at Target for $16, and it works fine.
June 26th, 2009 at 6:11 am
Cool – off to Target tomorrow… Had a very nice chat with a woman at Fox International this morning who tried to be helpful, but of course they have none available anywhere.
June 27th, 2009 at 5:51 am
Purchased the 12 cup Mr. Coffee decanter at Target – it doesn’t fit. Maybe the carafe is right instead of the decanter (it’s a bit shorter)
June 27th, 2009 at 6:40 pm
For those of you getting the Mr Coffee replacement carafe for the mill and brew. The one that fits is the model PLD-12. there are actually two models of the decanter and the other one (I don’t remember the model number because I returned it) does NOT fit. But PLD-12 works fine! Yay – not a waste of a good coffee brewer.

Hello, If you have recently found the replacement carafe for Melitta MEMB1B, black, please let me know. I love my coffee made in this mill and brew model, but I am getting frustrated. Do any of the universal carafes work? Thanks for your help!

Many thanks to bryan!!! You saved Melitta Mill and Brew from the trash heap.
A Mr. Coffee Replacement Decanter which fits [tightly] our Melitta Mill and Brew is:
Mr. Coffee Replacement Decanter with “PLD12″ on the bottom left corner of the top and sides of the box and which states that it fits:
“Mr. Coffee: CG, DR,NC,PL, RM, TF, and VB 12-CUP SERIES SUNBEAM 6000 12 CUP SERIES.”
It is a snug fit at least st first. When you put the decanter on the coffeemaker be sure you push it all the way on so that the bottom of the pot fits squarely and evenly into the bottom heating unit. If it is even slightly off center brewed coffee will run off the top and spill onto the heating unit and counter. If this begins to happen, CAREFULLY push the decanter into the coffee maker.
Be careful when you remove the decanter. Hold the coffee maker while you pull the decanter out by the handle.
Using this decanter on the Mill & Brew works well but is not a job for a child or careless teen or a person with a weak or unsteday grip.

Hello frustrated coffee lovers. I also am frustrated by not being able to find a mill and brew replacement carafe. Anybody selling?
July 31st, 2009 at 3:08 am
I want to buy one of these machines after reading all the comments and dedications to find a new carafe. I have the Cuisonart Grind and Brew and it doesn’t get hot enough and it spills everywhere.

I too am looking for a replacement pot for the Mill & Brew. This is ridiculous that it is so HARD to find. Any help??

I am looking for a top latch…any info? Thanks.
August 12th, 2009 at 5:31 am
You all might want to check out your GoodWill Stores. I found what appears to be a very little used Melitta Mill and Brew for only $7.00. I works great. Parts are almost impossible to find now.
August 15th, 2009 at 5:56 pm
Melitta has ditched Fox-International as a distributor and will have mill and brew baskets and carafes at the end of Aug. 09 per Donna Gray (dgray@melitta.com) Please contact her directly with any requests.

I have been so frustrated with the mill and brew. I own 3 and now am down to 1 complete. As for the top latch we sit a box of bisquick on it! I would love basjkets is out there for the thermal mill and brew! Thanks

We have replaced 3 Militta’s in the past year under warranty. Each time, the model we had is no longer being made, and each time, a cheaper and cheaper model is sent as a replacement.
It appears that as a part of their marketing plan, is to force customers into buying a whole new machine.
Good old Mr. Coffee uses almost the same style pot for years that work on different Mr C makers. And they stand behind their product, which works just as well for about half the price.
Customer service will either make or break companies in this economy.

I thought that “misery loves company” but somehow knowing there are many others on the same quest for the elusive replacement carafe hasn’t assuaged my frustration with the lack of customer service from Melitta!
I do have one helpful tip though, the latch that holds the top down (so the machine will grind) broke a few months after getting the machine (badly designed) so I used Mighty Putty to glue a strip of black Velcro on the side of the basket housing & another on the lid & it’s worked great! I’ve even put the housing through the dishwasher several times & it’s still holding.
Tomorrow I’m going to follow Larry Hannon’s suggestion & contact Donna Gray??¦??¦wish me luck!

I have a helpful tip on how to repair the badly designed latch that holds the top down so the machine will grind. I used Mighty Putty to glue a strip of black Velcro on the side of the basket housing & another on the lid. When you start the machine just close the lid by connecting the two strips & it works great! I’ve even put the housing through the dishwasher several times & it’s still holding.

TO DATHAN:Hi … My husband & I just laid to rest our Mill & Brew a week ago. We had ours for 4 yrs. I purchased xtra parts, basket, carafe, etc. JUST in case as we so enjoyed our coffee from this magnificent machine.Something happened under the blades, it melted. Then coffee was leaking from that side panel all over our counters. My husband is still going to try to fix it with an O ring. The ceo of Melitta, after me writing him, told me they are no longer making this machine, that SUPPOSEDLY they were desiging a new on for 2010? Also, our basket tore on the metal mesh thank goodness i had aback up at the time, & tried to order another one which Melitta stated was on back order. Took my card # havent heard back for over 6 mos” But we did purchase another model from another comapany & we looked around a lot. We paid a little more but it was worth it. It’s Cuisinart Grind & Brew DGB625 series….TOTALY IN LOVE W/IT. GREAT COFFEE!! STRONG MACHINE. You really must check it out online. We went thru Amazon.com as they always find the best prices & fast delivery. I will write again in a few months to let u know how it’s going. From the reviews I’ve read & also my son couldn’t get parts for his Mellitta & also owns this same Cuisinart for 5 mos now & HE LOVES IT. Check it out…Good luck
August 29th, 2009 at 4:18 pm
P.S. DATHAN: I meant to write that my son also HAD a Melitta and couldn’t get parts for his so he PURCHASED this Cuisinart that I speak of.

I think ive been on every site that has anything to do with Melitta. I think now i could just about find anything. I might just get a basket case one and start from ground zero…lol

September 2nd, 2009 at 4:33 am
I just purchased a black 12-cup replacement carafe pot for my Melitta Mill & Brew. I’d love to have a NEW one, but it’s impossible to find one on any website. I might look at the Cuisinart also.
September 2nd, 2009 at 7:00 am
Cuisinart Grind & Brew DGB625 I TELL YOU THIS IS A GREAT MACHINE!! the grinder is separte, (where you put your beans), SO no washing & after it grinds it shutes the coffee litteral out a shute into the basket. DANG WHAT A GREAT CUP OF COFFEE!! AND u have your choice of using the basket OR paper filters…AND IT MAKES 12 CUPS and you can adjust it easily to brew lesser amounts…the grinder is factory preset for the best speed and finess of the grind BUT you can change it. Yes, the basket is separate from the grinder BUT in the melitta we were risning out that basket/grinder and moisture was in there SO i’m wondering if that’s why ours finally burned out” I will keep you informed as time goes on but so far everything is an A+ on this Cuisinart Grind & Brew DGB625 !!!!

My machine stopped grinding. Haven’t used it for months. Brews, but won’t grind. Anyone know if there is a reset button somewhere? After reading all these comments, I’ll treat my carafe with great care.
November 10th, 2009 at 9:43 pm
My filter basket is ripped so I started looking online and found this forum. I am glad I did as I realized I needed to get going and order it. The filter basket was up on the Melitta site, but since I wanted the part that the filter fits into (which is attached to the drip spout, of which mine is clogged and not working well) I tried the number on the bottom and got connected to the Fox Comp.
They had the holder but not the filter and said they are not making any more. I reloaded the Melitta website and found that the filter wasn’t there any more. I called the Melitta number that the Fox rep gave me and the nice lady on the other end said I could order one filter. When I asked to order two, one for backup, she told me I was literally getting the last one they had and that she had taken it down off the web today. Wow! No more filters available for the Mill and Brew. She nicely threw in the housing I needed for free though.
You WILL NOT be able to get parts for this thing any more. What people have written above is accurate. They are not making it anymore, they are coming out with a new line of coffee makers in the 1st quarter of 2010 but a Mill and Brew won’t be part of the line, at least for now.
So glad I got the last filter!!!

Does anyone know if the Melitta Replacement Carafe – RCA-10/12U will work for the MEMB1 Grind and Brew? Target offers that one for $10.
December 3rd, 2009 at 5:50 am
I just received the NEW Melitta Mill & Brew. Guess what…It takes exactly the same parts as the old one. We have had ours for nearly 10 years and somehow the cover for the filter basket got “lost”. The machine works great and my husband is really spoiled by the coffee. Now he can have his coffee and I have new part numbers to order a basket for the old one. Maybe the motor home will have its own Melitta now! Oh – I found the new coffee maker on e-bay.
December 8th, 2009 at 6:56 pm
Help! After reading through some of the above, all I need is the basket. The motor runs fine and I have not had to replace the carafe. I love the coffee that this brews, where did you get the new model from and how much did you pay for it? Happy Holidays, thanks for the info here.
December 10th, 2009 at 5:03 am
I posted on this before but my basket ripped again & my boyfriend fixed it even better this time. He used a strip of plastic & used a soldering iron to melt & adhere it to the basket when the screen had pulled away from the plastic. It doesn’t look pretty, but it works perfectly.
December 18th, 2009 at 7:55 am
how much does the new melitta mill&brew cost
December 30th, 2009 at 9:54 pm
I just ordered the black carafe online last night and called and ordered the grinder basket today over the phone and they waived the shipping. Oh happy day!

need a black carafe for the ME1MSB – Melitta with weather station. anyone know what other brand/type of carafe might fit??
January 12th, 2010 at 4:52 am
I found on the Melitta site where I can order up to 2 carafes for the coffee makers model #’s posted.
January 13th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
We are no longer using our Melitta Mill & Brew Coffee Maker. All parts are available to those who may need them. The model number from the bottom of the unit is MEMB1 K0610. It is black. The unit is well used, but these used parts may work well for you. The mesh screen on the basket is torn/separated from the plastic base in one spot. The stopper on the spout above the carafe has been removed (to facilitate quicker filling of the carafe), so you cannot pull out the carafe when brewing. The rest of the unit is in good used condition. We also have the original Use & Care Guide, which covers models: MEMB1W, MEMB1B, MEMB1WCAN. Saw some used pricing on eBay, that I consider way too expensive – Guide-$20 delivered; basket-$41 delivered; carafe-$41 delivered. If you need a part, we will agree on a reasonable delivered price. I could list your item on eBay, but would prefer to avoid the extra work, and deal direct. USA shipping only, PayPal preferred. If interested, please contact me at uconnhusky01 at yahoo dot com.

i need a user manual for the Mill & Brew MEMB1 coffee maker. anyone know where to get one?
January 31st, 2010 at 6:42 pm
I have had two of these and same problem with both. The latch on lid which is plastic breaks quite easily even when handle with care.Need replacement if available, like product,it does make loud noise when grinding but I am most annoyed with plastic hinge breaking. Will not buy another if I cannot replace hinge, they are expensive and do not last long.
January 31st, 2010 at 8:35 pm
I too have an older Black Mill & Brew from Target and am in need of a replacement top cover (the locking tab broke on mine). I’ve been using duct tape, doesn’t work well with the heat. If anyone is tossing theirs because they got a newer one or something else broke and they can’t get the parts they need to fix theirs, Please contact me at muckermanrg at comcast dot net Thanx
February 2nd, 2010 at 7:14 pm
I am my second, first one kept working but I redid my kitchen and wanted a shiny new coffee pot.I got the one with the weather reports screen…picks up the MSN feed.I am glad I kept the older pots for spareparts. Just wanted to say that after a lot of research on consumer reports and other sites, Melita machines out performed and out lasted most others including the top of the line Cusinarts. Looking forward to the new model.
February 4th, 2010 at 4:51 am
Well, I came upon this website because I pulled a nearly BRAND NEW MEMB1 Grind & Brew, sans carafe, from the dumpster at work the other day. How could someone throw away a nearly new coffee maker that seemed so well made, I wondered. Then I started reading, and was crestfallen to find out parts were nearly impossible to find. Not giving up, and having read some of the reports from others that Melitta would be getting parts in, I decided to check out the Melitta website. I did a search on M1MB and got the message “your search for m1mb yielded no results”! Dang! But there was also a link reading “See All Results”? Wa-huh? I clicked it and was taken right to the page for the carafe at $9.99! Go figure! I called Melitta’s customer care line just to make sure it wasn’t some vestige of the past and was assured, yes, they had plenty. I ordered one ($6.50 shipping) and it arrived in three days! Had my first cup tonight and was delighted to find this coffee maker everything everyone has said it is! So as far as the carafe goes, take heart, they have plenty (I’m going to order another just in case).
February 4th, 2010 at 2:10 pm
Someone above linked to the carafe in white. I purchased it thinking it was all melitta offered for this model. After being charged and receiving a confirmation email that my order was processed, I waited 20 days and still no show. I contacted the address provided in the confirmation email and asked where my caraffe was. They got right back to me and let me know my order had been cancelled by their system automatically (WTF?) and that they’d reprocess it right away. I received an email with shipping info soon after and my caraffe finally arrived a few days later. Low and behold, the white caraffe I ordered was black! It matched my machine but I still find it a lucky/ridiculous mistake on melitta’s part to send me the color I didn’t order almost a month after ordering and needing to reorder it, and it just so happens to match my machine. You crazy, Melitta.
February 13th, 2010 at 10:07 pm
I also have a MEMB1. The top door to the grinder won’t stay closed because the catch on the bottom portion of the grinder housing broke off. This entire part detaches easily for cleaning. It’s been in my basement for a couple of years, but nothing else I’ve used in the meantime has made coffee as good as this unit – I’d really prefer to fix it. Any have or know where I might find, this part? Thanks in advance!
February 14th, 2010 at 2:03 am
Scott, Thanks!! I just did what you did and my replacement carafe is on the way! It seems like there are a lot of broken carafes all around. Regardless, I’m glad they’re doing something to resolve this. I hope to get my carafe soon..
February 28th, 2010 at 3:38 pm
Manual for MEMB1
http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/melitta/memb1b_memb1w.html
The power button has a different symbol than mine sort of @, instead of an “on/off” lable, but that’s about it.
March 8th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Similar to most people on this board I too love my mill and brew coffee maker. I was dismayed when I broke a tiny piece of plastic on the lid that prevents it from closing shut properly. We weighted it down as an interim measure and then I called the 1-800 number to see if a replacement part was available. I had a good customer service experience and a new lid was ordered quickly and easily (for $18.99 shipped). The item came within a couple of weeks and we were excited to do the exchange. However, the lid comes with no instructions and we’re at our wit’s end as to how to remove the old lid! There are two obvious screws to remove, but the lid is still held firmly in place by some other mechanism and we cannot figure out what the trick is. Has anyone else had success? If we can’t find a way we’ll send the part back for our money back (confirmed this is possible). Disappointing, but not unexpected for a machine that is no longer in production.
March 9th, 2010 at 12:12 am
Really like the Smart Mill & Brew, but the MSN Clock cannot keep the connection so the coffee does not brew at the set time. Has anyone figured out how to disable the MSN feed and set the clock manually? I live in Southern California and cannot believe how awful the MSN service is.
March 18th, 2010 at 10:03 pm
I would like to know the same thing as Oscar, if there is anyway of disableing the MSN direct so I can set the time manually. I cannot preset the time with the MSN direct not working.
I live about 1 hr from Atlanta and on one of my cabinets, I got a signal one time & moved it to another and got it two times. I don’t know why I can’t get it now when I could then.
March 20th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Great to have found this site.
I have been looking for a replacement basket
for my melitta MEMB1B. I found this site after going to the http://www.melitta.com, which was not any help.
From the comments here, it looks like the melitta customer service can some times be awful and at other times not so bad. I would like to know what is the best number to use to call them?
Thanks
March 22nd, 2010 at 6:37 pm
I have had one of these for the past 4-5 yrs. the first one we bought lasted four years. It seems as if the carafe is easily breakable however as ours got broken when someone bumped into it. I bought a Mr coffee carafe and it fit perfectly. The basket of our first one eventually ripped around the edges and also the little clip that holds the lid down got busted off, so we bought another one of this model used. We have had it for about a year now and the same thing has happened. The basket is beginning to rip and the little clip that holds down the lid to the grinder has busted off! I absolutely love this model but I may have to opt for the newer version in stainless steel
I highly recommend this maker for anyone whom loves fresh ground and brewed coffee. I think it is funny that at the bottom of the article it says that one of the downsides to this product is that there is an automatic shut off and the coffee gets cold. All you have to do is hit the “mill” button and then the on/off button and it will come right back on, keeping your coffee nice and hot for up to and hour or more after the initial shut off.
March 22nd, 2010 at 6:40 pm
Oh, just one more thing~ I noticed that someone above had mentioned that they are not making the mill and brew any longer, that is inaccurate. The do still make them! They are stainless steel however. Here is a link for them on Ebay. There are also some replacement carafe’s and other parts on there from time to time. You just have to look every few days or so, but they are always there! http://shop.ebay.com/items/melitta+mill+%26+brew?_dmd=1&_sop=12&rvr_id=&cbp=8.0&rawquery=melitta+mill+and+brew&mscbg=1&seg_id=0&its=20100322164447&geo_id=1&keyword=melitta+mill+%26+brew&sig=2096f1887c1bdcbaa607b1ae7f6e36806440

Hannah – Re: Replacement Lid question
There are two screws accessible from the top, under the warning label. Just peel the label back and go. It’s a little tricky maneuvering the re-install. If you see this, I’d love to know how or who you contacted for the replacement lid (for the grinder). That’s how I learned how to remove it – trying to repair mine that broke the same way they all do eventually. Thanks. Terry
May 11th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
Terry – thanks for the info. I did eventually figure out that you need to peel back the warning label to replace the lid. To get the lid I called the following number: 1-800-233-9054 (should be the same as the customer service number given in the manual). I’ve actually had good luck ordering parts from there. I also needed a new piece that the basket sits in because that broke too. I’ve called them probably 4-5 times to figure out ordering new parts and haven’t experienced any of the issues described in this thread. However, to date I haven’t needed a carafe, which seems to be the sticking issue.
Good luck!
May 12th, 2010 at 5:48 pm
Well, the carafes are now avaialbe(at least for the time being)at the melitta website. Get’em while they’re hot!

May 12th, 2010 at 10:01 pm
Hello, all. First, I ordered two replacement carafe’s from the Melitta website for $9.99 each plus $6.50 shipping, so that should address the carafe availability issue. They were only available in black at the time that I ordered. In the meantime, I just spoke with a nice woman at Melitta who told me that they will be getting the grinder baskets in stock by late June, so hopefully some of you will be able to get your grinder baskets ordered directly from Melitta instead of paying an arm and a leg for used ones on Ebay! Good luck!
May 14th, 2010 at 2:54 am
I too am looking for a grinder basket. Is there any way to got on a waiting list? Thanks. Jim
July 6th, 2010 at 12:45 am
I just got a One All Universal Replacement Carafe at Target for $13.99 and it works fine on the ME1MSB Coffee Mill and Brew
July 9th, 2010 at 8:38 pm
I ordered a replacement filter basket in early June. On the ordering page, it said “backordered until July 1, 2010. So I placed the order hoping to get my basket after that. Unfortunately, no baskets. Now the page says “Out of Stock”. Very disappointing. I am wondering if my order will be kept active until the baskets are available, or if I have to keep reordering them.
March 17th, 2011 at 12:50 am
I am in need of the lid with plastic latch for my mill and brew. I called Fox Intl but was told they ran out of this part 6 months ago. Before I use the velco idea, is there anywhere/anyone else that has this part? I’ve checked ebay but none listed. I would be willing to buy a used part from somebody. Thks.
April 20th, 2011 at 11:42 pm
Has anyone found any one who will attempt to REPAIR the actual coffeemaker? The water is not traveling through the machine when I turn it on, and then, (reasonably) it automatically turns “off” shortly thereafter. I want it repaired, since it can’t be replaced. WHY would Melitta stop making the best coffee makere ever?!
April 21st, 2011 at 4:41 pm
i need a manual for my coffee pot and downloaded on once, but do not remember from where. can any one help?
April 28th, 2011 at 7:09 pm
I can’t figure out why this company does not reintroduce the mill and brew. I love mine and have been trying to bid on one and the prices they are fetching are incredible. Stupid marketing Melitta!
April 30th, 2011 at 6:52 pm
I can’t bring myself to “toss” mine. I keep thinking someone will take a look at it & find a coffee bean lodged somewhere or some other “fixable” issue, not that I haven’t been diligent. The basket is in perfect shape. I still think it’s the “hard water” that did it in…
May 19th, 2011 at 4:50 am
Anyone have a glass carafe they want to sell for the MEMB1B model? Please email me. Thanks!
May 31st, 2011 at 9:36 pm
I still very much like my MEMB1 mill and brew. I am in need of a new brew basket. Black if possible. Can anyone help?
June 1st, 2011 at 3:53 am
Debbe I will re-post my original post since it was months ago. We just repaired the basket by taking a piece of sturdy black plastic and fusing it with the basket to the mesh part with a soldering iron. A glue gun won’t work because it doesn’t adhere well enough, just melting plastic doesn’t work well enough either. The basket has to actually be slightly melted and fused with whatever sturdy plastic you use. Mine was repaired at least 2 years ago and is holding up fine.
June 23rd, 2011 at 7:29 am
I have been looking for the much sought after carafe. Obviously it’s not going to happen, but I have some interesting info. For you all. Westinghouse had the exact same mill and brew in a promotion for a concept called ‘beyond’. The machine is called smart mill and brew coffee maker. I bought it about 4 years ago. I was able to replace the basket. Not knowing that melita made the same coffeemaker, I searched under westinghouse and found the basket at fox international. 800-227-5369. Obviously either melita made the coffeemaker for westinghouse too or vice versa. Hope this helps. Also, capresso makes a mill and brew. I had one about 10 years ago, it broke so I bought another capresso model. I forget what eventually went wrong with that one, but I do know that have updated their products and if the westinghouse coffeemaker bites the dust, I’ll try them again. Oh, one more thing. The latch broke on my machine too and I just use a rock to keep the lid down. Good luck!

Thanks! It is wonderful to wake up to the distant sound of freshly ground coffee beans & the aroma of perfectly brewed coffee! “Too loud?” HA!

Hey Jan – what did you figure was wrong with yours – or did you purchase another? I actually have the Smart Mill and Brew but am having the same problem that you were. The water refuses to pump – and as best I can tell there’s nothing mechanically wrong with the machine. The basket appears to be fine and it registers that the cover is closed. Any tips would be appreciated!! Thank you!

Oh, Sara~I thought it was the awful water in PA, and I tried running white vinegar through it…to no avail. I can not bring myself to toss the machine… I nearly kept it plugged-in just to continue getting the 3-day weather reports! Alas, I too, am out of ideas. Picked up a “food network” grinder & a “Mr. Coffee”
My sister’s boyfriend is good with machines & the next time we visit, I’m taking it with me. Believe me~ when I know how it gets fixed, I’ll POST it!

Hi all. I bought my Mill and Brew several years ago on ebay and have used it daily. I’ve replaced the basket once and have modified the lid to stay closed over the basket. I haven’t been able to find one of the stainless steel carafes though. Does anyone know of a source?

Hi, this coffee maker was also marketed by QVC under their Cooks Essentials brand. It was called Mill and Drip. You might search on eBay under that name to find your steel carafe.

Hi again. I enjoy reading these posts. It’s like people have these great old collectable cars and just won’t part with them so they are scrambling for parts….I was able to find a replacement brew basket for my machine, which is actually a Cooks Essentials brand with a steel thermal caraffe. They have a few at Melitta (1-888-635 44882). I called yesterday and they said they would call back later that day. I called again this morning and they said they had a few in stock but weren’t making them any more. They also had my name and information from two years ago when I ordered one and they said they were limiting orders to one, but since it had been so long I could order one more. (whew!!) My basket actually stripped out on the bottom where it makes contact with the grinder motor. I had the original one that I had glued the screen on and am using that until the new one arrives. I think the price was around $13, and I’m not sure if that includes shipping but at this stage it’s a bargain. As far as the repairing the lid on the grinding mechanism (which apparently always fails on these units) I simply screwed in a painted flat head screw which still catches on the main body. I think I have replaced the screw once (It rusted out), this repair has worked for years. Good luck all!

Does anyone have a replacement carafe or have any information on where to get one that would fit the Melitta Mill & Brew? I need a MEMB1. I have a broken black carafe but would use any color to get the Melitta back in my life each morning! Help!

I looked at the beginning of all the posts and I will look into the Mr Coffee PLD12 and one for all replacement at Target for $13.99 and let you all know if it fits.

If any of you are looking for a carafe, I found a couple people advising that the Mr. Coffee ESD12 (white) and Mr. Coffee ESD13 (black) carafes are an excellent fit especially if you have the old top from your Mill & Brew. The new Mr. Coffee carafes don’t fit. I just ordered one from a website and I’ll let you know how it fits when I get it this week. There may be hope afterall!! By the way, Melitta is of no help at all. Thanks.

Thanks, but I’ve called Melitta twice and they have no carafes that fit the Mill & Brew. However, I found another forum that stated that older, out of date Mr. Coffee carafes do fit; i.e., ESD12 (white) and ESD13 (black). I read that if you use the top from the original Mill & Brew carafe, you could still use the pause & pour feature. If you don’t have the original top, the carafe still fits fine! I just ordered one and I’ll let everyone know when I receive it. Maybe there’s hope afterall for those of us who just need the carafe! Thanks.

I miss my Smart Mill and Brew. The MSN feed was so handy….I am now using my much older…Mill and Brew that I saved for parts right now. I wrote the manufacturer and they responded within 24hrs that they no longer make that model and therefore dont sell the parts to repair it.I have been checking Ebay and would love to buy another one….anyone who would like to sell me theirs should post!

Can anyone suggest a worthy replacement for this coffee maker? Mine died few days ago and I’m lost in all the different options.
I just need something that makes great coffee, cost less than $100 and does not make a mess of my counter top.
Any help?

My wife bought our Mill & Brew MEMB1W YEARS ago on clearance… I went to use it only to find that the grinder basket is…well… not there. So, I have a pristine coffee maker that is useless. Any suggestions from anyone? Happy Thanksgiving, by the way!

Let me know if anyone has that part (Mill/Brew basket, I believe), or… wants to buy the rest of the machine (and clean pot).

I may be interested in buying the pot. What color is it?

I am also looking for a caraffe for my Mill & Brew by Melitta, which I love. Please let me know if anyone has one to purchase, white or black. Loretta Magrino

I have some replacement parts to the Melitta 10cup Mill & Brew for whomever wants them. We reluctantly threw out the main machine out today, after many years of really, really good coffee. The grinder motor finally gave out and we just got tired of trying to find replacement parts. We bought a Saeco Grinder and Brewer, which we also love, and accept the fact that we won’t be able to use flavored beans in it.
The first person to email us at gellerman55 @ gmail.com can have our parts:
1. a Mr. Coffee carafe that fits, with the plastic handle and top, plus another carafe without the plastic parts as an extra to have on hand
2. the outer plastic basket that holds the inner mesh baskethttp://www.talkaboutcoffee.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-form
3. the inner mesh basket with its lid.
I’m sending it all out as a single package to the first address I receive. I don’t want any cash, but you will owe someone a good deed…you know, the pay-it-forward principle.

I have the Mill & Brew (in black) and it is in fine working order. I had to buy a replacement pot a couple years back as the original broke, but the replacement is from Melita and the same color as the machine. I also have the mesh baskets for grinding/filtering the coffee. The larger plastic piece that holds the mesh basket still fits on the machine though where you push to remove it one of the buttons is a bit damaged. I’m offering it for sale to anyone who might be local to me. I live in Glassboro (Southern NJ). If you’re interested please contact me via email (kate @ njgeo.org) and we can discuss details further.

Oh my– we’re looking for a replacement carafe. We didn’t break it– just has a warped lid from putting in dishwasher. Guess we’ll keep on using it. Got a Keurig for Christmas, but keeping the Melita for larger groups.

Looking to purchase a assembly lid for my mill and brew model memb1b. This is the lid on the top of the coffee maker held down with 2 screws and swings down to lock down the grinding basket. The little plastic lock is broken on ours.
