If you prefer to have your coffee ooze with a strong flavor fit to your taste, then this is the perfect coffee maker for you. The Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker produces cups of coffee which will wake up your senses whenever you feel drowsy in the morning or in any time of day. This coffee maker only uses 1,025 watts in order to have your coffee done.
Useful, efficient and convenient, the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker has a automatic shut-off function which will not let you worry about keeping an eye on the machine whenever you are busy. This machine also has a timer which you can program easily so you do not have to worry about anything at all. Another fantastic feature of the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker is its grinder which has seven coarseness settings.

Problems encountered with the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker
The Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker is known to sell like hotcakes in the market for its unbelievably efficient features, but however, there are still setbacks when you buy this product. As most of the users have said about other coffee makers, the grinder of the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker produces quite a loud sound whenever the coffee is being processed. Another thing to note about the coffee maker is its automatic shut-off function. Yes, this is indeed an excellent safety feature, but for most of the users, this can also be considered as a disadvantage. The automatic shut-off feature of the Melitta Mill & Brew MEMB1B 10-cup coffee Maker will give the users a generous supply of cold coffee when there is still an amount left in the coffee maker.

After spending half the day on the internet I found the Mr. Coffee replacement carafes at Warehouse Outlet in Ontario, Canada. 905-602-5191. Ask for Oxanna. They have 2 white carafes left.

I bought the “One all” 12 c. carafe by Medelco at Target. It does not fit perfectly but it does work.

Hi all. I am interested in any information regarding substitute carafes for the Melitta Mill & Brew (MEMB1). Melitta no longer makes them and Mr. Coffee no longer makes the substitute. Has someone discovered another?
Melitta is still selling the baskets, lids and covers for this great coffee maker.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keeping this thread alive for those of us that enjoy this machine and our coffee!

Looking to purchase a assembly lid for my mill and brew model memb1b. This is the lid on the top of the coffee maker held down with 2 screws and swings down to lock down the grinding basket. The little plastic lock is broken on ours.
Elna says
Oh my– we’re looking for a replacement carafe. We didn’t break it– just has a warped lid from putting in dishwasher. Guess we’ll keep on using it. Got a Keurig for Christmas, but keeping the Melita for larger groups.

I have the Mill & Brew (in black) and it is in fine working order. I had to buy a replacement pot a couple years back as the original broke, but the replacement is from Melita and the same color as the machine. I also have the mesh baskets for grinding/filtering the coffee. The larger plastic piece that holds the mesh basket still fits on the machine though where you push to remove it one of the buttons is a bit damaged. I’m offering it for sale to anyone who might be local to me. I live in Glassboro (Southern NJ). If you’re interested please contact me via email (kate @ njgeo.org) and we can discuss details further.

I have some replacement parts to the Melitta 10cup Mill & Brew for whomever wants them. We reluctantly threw out the main machine out today, after many years of really, really good coffee. The grinder motor finally gave out and we just got tired of trying to find replacement parts. We bought a Saeco Grinder and Brewer, which we also love, and accept the fact that we won’t be able to use flavored beans in it.
The first person to email us at gellerman55 @ gmail.com can have our parts:
1. a Mr. Coffee carafe that fits, with the plastic handle and top, plus another carafe without the plastic parts as an extra to have on hand
2. the outer plastic basket that holds the inner mesh baskethttps://www.talkaboutcoffee.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php#comments-form
3. the inner mesh basket with its lid.
I’m sending it all out as a single package to the first address I receive. I don’t want any cash, but you will owe someone a good deed…you know, the pay-it-forward principle.

I may be interested in buying the pot. What color is it?

Let me know if anyone has that part (Mill/Brew basket, I believe), or… wants to buy the rest of the machine (and clean pot).

My wife bought our Mill & Brew MEMB1W YEARS ago on clearance… I went to use it only to find that the grinder basket is…well… not there. So, I have a pristine coffee maker that is useless. Any suggestions from anyone? Happy Thanksgiving, by the way!

Can anyone suggest a worthy replacement for this coffee maker? Mine died few days ago and I’m lost in all the different options.
I just need something that makes great coffee, cost less than $100 and does not make a mess of my counter top.
Any help?

I miss my Smart Mill and Brew. The MSN feed was so handy….I am now using my much older…Mill and Brew that I saved for parts right now. I wrote the manufacturer and they responded within 24hrs that they no longer make that model and therefore dont sell the parts to repair it.I have been checking Ebay and would love to buy another one….anyone who would like to sell me theirs should post! :)
Rose says
Thanks, but I’ve called Melitta twice and they have no carafes that fit the Mill & Brew. However, I found another forum that stated that older, out of date Mr. Coffee carafes do fit; i.e., ESD12 (white) and ESD13 (black). I read that if you use the top from the original Mill & Brew carafe, you could still use the pause & pour feature. If you don’t have the original top, the carafe still fits fine! I just ordered one and I’ll let everyone know when I receive it. Maybe there’s hope afterall for those of us who just need the carafe! Thanks.
Rose says
If any of you are looking for a carafe, I found a couple people advising that the Mr. Coffee ESD12 (white) and Mr. Coffee ESD13 (black) carafes are an excellent fit especially if you have the old top from your Mill & Brew. The new Mr. Coffee carafes don’t fit. I just ordered one from a website and I’ll let you know how it fits when I get it this week. There may be hope afterall!! By the way, Melitta is of no help at all. Thanks.

Does anyone have a replacement carafe or have any information on where to get one that would fit the Melitta Mill & Brew? I need a MEMB1. I have a broken black carafe but would use any color to get the Melitta back in my life each morning! Help!

Hi again. I enjoy reading these posts. It’s like people have these great old collectable cars and just won’t part with them so they are scrambling for parts….I was able to find a replacement brew basket for my machine, which is actually a Cooks Essentials brand with a steel thermal caraffe. They have a few at Melitta (1-888-635 44882). I called yesterday and they said they would call back later that day. I called again this morning and they said they had a few in stock but weren’t making them any more. They also had my name and information from two years ago when I ordered one and they said they were limiting orders to one, but since it had been so long I could order one more. (whew!!) My basket actually stripped out on the bottom where it makes contact with the grinder motor. I had the original one that I had glued the screen on and am using that until the new one arrives. I think the price was around $13, and I’m not sure if that includes shipping but at this stage it’s a bargain. As far as the repairing the lid on the grinding mechanism (which apparently always fails on these units) I simply screwed in a painted flat head screw which still catches on the main body. I think I have replaced the screw once (It rusted out), this repair has worked for years. Good luck all!
Paula says
Hi, this coffee maker was also marketed by QVC under their Cooks Essentials brand. It was called Mill and Drip. You might search on eBay under that name to find your steel carafe.
rick says
Hi all. I bought my Mill and Brew several years ago on ebay and have used it daily. I’ve replaced the basket once and have modified the lid to stay closed over the basket. I haven’t been able to find one of the stainless steel carafes though. Does anyone know of a source?

Oh, Sara~I thought it was the awful water in PA, and I tried running white vinegar through it…to no avail. I can not bring myself to toss the machine… I nearly kept it plugged-in just to continue getting the 3-day weather reports! Alas, I too, am out of ideas. Picked up a “food network” grinder & a “Mr. Coffee” :( My sister’s boyfriend is good with machines & the next time we visit, I’m taking it with me. Believe me~ when I know how it gets fixed, I’ll POST it!
Sara B. says
Hey Jan – what did you figure was wrong with yours – or did you purchase another? I actually have the Smart Mill and Brew but am having the same problem that you were. The water refuses to pump – and as best I can tell there’s nothing mechanically wrong with the machine. The basket appears to be fine and it registers that the cover is closed. Any tips would be appreciated!! Thank you!
Jan says
Thanks! It is wonderful to wake up to the distant sound of freshly ground coffee beans & the aroma of perfectly brewed coffee! “Too loud?” HA!

I have been looking for the much sought after carafe. Obviously it’s not going to happen, but I have some interesting info. For you all. Westinghouse had the exact same mill and brew in a promotion for a concept called ‘beyond’. The machine is called smart mill and brew coffee maker. I bought it about 4 years ago. I was able to replace the basket. Not knowing that melita made the same coffeemaker, I searched under westinghouse and found the basket at fox international. 800-227-5369. Obviously either melita made the coffeemaker for westinghouse too or vice versa. Hope this helps. Also, capresso makes a mill and brew. I had one about 10 years ago, it broke so I bought another capresso model. I forget what eventually went wrong with that one, but I do know that have updated their products and if the westinghouse coffeemaker bites the dust, I’ll try them again. Oh, one more thing. The latch broke on my machine too and I just use a rock to keep the lid down. Good luck!
Laurie de Koning says
Debbe I will re-post my original post since it was months ago. We just repaired the basket by taking a piece of sturdy black plastic and fusing it with the basket to the mesh part with a soldering iron. A glue gun won’t work because it doesn’t adhere well enough, just melting plastic doesn’t work well enough either. The basket has to actually be slightly melted and fused with whatever sturdy plastic you use. Mine was repaired at least 2 years ago and is holding up fine.
Debbe Harris says
I still very much like my MEMB1 mill and brew. I am in need of a new brew basket. Black if possible. Can anyone help?
Donna says
Anyone have a glass carafe they want to sell for the MEMB1B model? Please email me. Thanks!
Jan says
I can’t bring myself to “toss” mine. I keep thinking someone will take a look at it & find a coffee bean lodged somewhere or some other “fixable” issue, not that I haven’t been diligent. The basket is in perfect shape. I still think it’s the “hard water” that did it in…
Jude says
I can’t figure out why this company does not reintroduce the mill and brew. I love mine and have been trying to bid on one and the prices they are fetching are incredible. Stupid marketing Melitta!

i need a manual for my coffee pot and downloaded on once, but do not remember from where. can any one help?
Jan says
Has anyone found any one who will attempt to REPAIR the actual coffeemaker? The water is not traveling through the machine when I turn it on, and then, (reasonably) it automatically turns “off” shortly thereafter. I want it repaired, since it can’t be replaced. WHY would Melitta stop making the best coffee makere ever?!
Debra says
I am in need of the lid with plastic latch for my mill and brew. I called Fox Intl but was told they ran out of this part 6 months ago. Before I use the velco idea, is there anywhere/anyone else that has this part? I’ve checked ebay but none listed. I would be willing to buy a used part from somebody. Thks.

I ordered a replacement filter basket in early June. On the ordering page, it said “backordered until July 1, 2010. So I placed the order hoping to get my basket after that. Unfortunately, no baskets. Now the page says “Out of Stock”. Very disappointing. I am wondering if my order will be kept active until the baskets are available, or if I have to keep reordering them.

I just got a One All Universal Replacement Carafe at Target for $13.99 and it works fine on the ME1MSB Coffee Mill and Brew

I too am looking for a grinder basket. Is there any way to got on a waiting list? Thanks. Jim
Paula says
Hello, all. First, I ordered two replacement carafe’s from the Melitta website for $9.99 each plus $6.50 shipping, so that should address the carafe availability issue. They were only available in black at the time that I ordered. In the meantime, I just spoke with a nice woman at Melitta who told me that they will be getting the grinder baskets in stock by late June, so hopefully some of you will be able to get your grinder baskets ordered directly from Melitta instead of paying an arm and a leg for used ones on Ebay! Good luck!

Well, the carafes are now avaialbe(at least for the time being)at the melitta website. Get’em while they’re hot!

Terry – thanks for the info. I did eventually figure out that you need to peel back the warning label to replace the lid. To get the lid I called the following number: 1-800-233-9054 (should be the same as the customer service number given in the manual). I’ve actually had good luck ordering parts from there. I also needed a new piece that the basket sits in because that broke too. I’ve called them probably 4-5 times to figure out ordering new parts and haven’t experienced any of the issues described in this thread. However, to date I haven’t needed a carafe, which seems to be the sticking issue.
Good luck!
Terry says
Hannah – Re: Replacement Lid question
There are two screws accessible from the top, under the warning label. Just peel the label back and go. It’s a little tricky maneuvering the re-install. If you see this, I’d love to know how or who you contacted for the replacement lid (for the grinder). That’s how I learned how to remove it – trying to repair mine that broke the same way they all do eventually. Thanks. Terry

Oh, just one more thing~ I noticed that someone above had mentioned that they are not making the mill and brew any longer, that is inaccurate. The do still make them! They are stainless steel however. Here is a link for them on Ebay. There are also some replacement carafe’s and other parts on there from time to time. You just have to look every few days or so, but they are always there! http://shop.ebay.com/items/melitta+mill+%26+brew?_dmd=1&_sop=12&rvr_id=&cbp=8.0&rawquery=melitta+mill+and+brew&mscbg=1&seg_id=0&its=20100322164447&geo_id=1&keyword=melitta+mill+%26+brew&sig=2096f1887c1bdcbaa607b1ae7f6e36806440

I have had one of these for the past 4-5 yrs. the first one we bought lasted four years. It seems as if the carafe is easily breakable however as ours got broken when someone bumped into it. I bought a Mr coffee carafe and it fit perfectly. The basket of our first one eventually ripped around the edges and also the little clip that holds the lid down got busted off, so we bought another one of this model used. We have had it for about a year now and the same thing has happened. The basket is beginning to rip and the little clip that holds down the lid to the grinder has busted off! I absolutely love this model but I may have to opt for the newer version in stainless steel :) I highly recommend this maker for anyone whom loves fresh ground and brewed coffee. I think it is funny that at the bottom of the article it says that one of the downsides to this product is that there is an automatic shut off and the coffee gets cold. All you have to do is hit the “mill” button and then the on/off button and it will come right back on, keeping your coffee nice and hot for up to and hour or more after the initial shut off. :)

Great to have found this site.
I have been looking for a replacement basket
for my melitta MEMB1B. I found this site after going to the http://www.melitta.com, which was not any help.
From the comments here, it looks like the melitta customer service can some times be awful and at other times not so bad. I would like to know what is the best number to use to call them?
Thanks

I would like to know the same thing as Oscar, if there is anyway of disableing the MSN direct so I can set the time manually. I cannot preset the time with the MSN direct not working.
I live about 1 hr from Atlanta and on one of my cabinets, I got a signal one time & moved it to another and got it two times. I don’t know why I can’t get it now when I could then.
Oscar says
Really like the Smart Mill & Brew, but the MSN Clock cannot keep the connection so the coffee does not brew at the set time. Has anyone figured out how to disable the MSN feed and set the clock manually? I live in Southern California and cannot believe how awful the MSN service is.
Hannah says
Similar to most people on this board I too love my mill and brew coffee maker. I was dismayed when I broke a tiny piece of plastic on the lid that prevents it from closing shut properly. We weighted it down as an interim measure and then I called the 1-800 number to see if a replacement part was available. I had a good customer service experience and a new lid was ordered quickly and easily (for $18.99 shipped). The item came within a couple of weeks and we were excited to do the exchange. However, the lid comes with no instructions and we’re at our wit’s end as to how to remove the old lid! There are two obvious screws to remove, but the lid is still held firmly in place by some other mechanism and we cannot figure out what the trick is. Has anyone else had success? If we can’t find a way we’ll send the part back for our money back (confirmed this is possible). Disappointing, but not unexpected for a machine that is no longer in production.
