Krups KM8105 12-Cup Coffee Maker

When I first saw the Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker, I thought to myself: “This is one that belongs to R2D2!” I just have the visual feel that it belongs in another time. But, it also reminds me of an old fashioned train bunk where you crawl into the birth and close the curtains snuggled away for the duration. I stared at the model for several minutes trying to decide why I had an emotional reaction to the look of this Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker. Then, I took a closer look at some of the features.

Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker product features:

  • Easy to read, top front LCD screen
  • Duo-water filtration system
  • Automatic shut off
  • Removable water tank
  • Removable brew basket

I wasn’t planning on buying any Coffee Maker when I spotted this one. It just had my name on it, I guess because it found its way home with me. I can’t begin to tell you how surprised my husband was! Since he is the pragmatic one in the family, I had to give him a really good reason why the Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker was better than the one sitting in the kitchen.

Remembering the product feature list on the side of the box, the first thing that came to mind was the removable water tank. It wasn’t tough to convince him that I really like that idea since I was always complaining about not being able to clean the tank on my old coffee maker. The Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker water tank has a flip-up/fold-down handle that makes it easy to remove the tank from the case and carry it to the sink. The handle is wide enough to make the tank stable even with water in it. The mouth of the tank is so easy to reach into for cleaning.

  • Front loading coffee drawer
  • Die-cast metal Coffee Maker
  • 1400 watt heating system
  • 2 year worldwide limited warranty

Once my husband heard about the removable tank, he calmed down a bit and started looking to see if there were other features of the Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker that he might like. When he saw that it was a 140-watt heating system, he grinned. Granted, that meant little to me but it sure pleased him. He told me that it meant the water would heat faster and get hotter than most coffee pots; and, because of that, the coffee would come out smother without the burn flavor that it sometimes gets. I’m not sure I understand what the temperature of the water has to do with the flavor of the coffee, but he was right.

When I saw that the Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker had an automatic shut-off, I was a bit disappointed. My last coffee maker would automatically shut off after 2 hours and I always had to make more coffee from scratch. Then, I noticed the automatic shut-off on this one was able to be programmed. I could decide how long it should be before it shut down! I set mine at 3 hours.

My husband was the one to take it out of the box and set up on the counter for its test run. I still giggle when I remember the look on his face as he tried to figure out where the filter went. There is a little handle just below the LCD screen and when you pull it, there is a secret drawer where the coffee goes. As long as the door is open, the Krups KM8105 12-cup Programmable Coffee Maker won’t brew. The first pot of coffee was spectacular! It sits in a cubby on the counter and the glass pot snuggles into the berth as I sit staring at the only Coffee Maker that ever made me emotional.
