If you don't use it, the machine will only heat the liquid. I have one and use it to heat and froth my milk for lattes every morning. I use 2% milk, so I don't know if that has anything to do with your frothing problem. Hope this helps! Linda,

It mixes very well but I am looking for recipes or ideas for different drinks than only hot cocoa but can't seem to find any. I thought it would foam more also. I made espresso in my espresso machine this morning and put it in the Cafe' Motion along with fat free half n half and sweetener but it didnt foam at all and was just the same as just putting it all in a cup. the only difference was it got the milk hot and i didnt have to put that in the microwave.
