<description>I have used the french press coffeemakers Bodum has sold for over ten years. My problem with the quality of their items started aobut 4 years ago. I bought a msaller 8cup press (Chambord) and very early on the carafe cracked making ti non usable. The relacement cost of the carfe at the time was more than Ipurchased the piece for. In December 2007 I received as a gift - the newere Chambord coffee press. I have used it regularly. Early on the spout got cracked. The &quot;stainless steel&quot;holder started to show some signs of rust at the bottome. I was able to plce the carafe in the dishwasher and had no problems. Untill this last Monday. I filled the glass carafe with te forund coffee 9you coudl still see whole coffee beans so the grind was coarse) and hot water (NOT boiling) that had been boiled and showed no bubles anymore. I opured that on to the grounds. I took care of other things while it steeped and then slowly and easily pushed the press down. No problems. Untill 2/3rds of the way through. The coffee suddenly exploded on to me out of a hole at the bottom of the carfe- the whole carfe cracked and showed a perfect round hole with cracks on either end. The coffee was all me and over the floor. And I was burnt.
This is totally unaaceptable. When I emailed Bodum and then called two days later they said they referred to antoher department.....and the lady admitted that the newer carafes are made in - OF COURSE - where else? - China.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. The glass si obviously flawed and is not capable of handling the stress of the plunger going down with hot water resisting it.
