Judy,
You need to trim about 1/8" off the bottom of the funnel tube. Then it will boil a bit longer to make the coffee stronger and it will more gently return back to the bottom.

I just bought a Bodum electric Santos coffeemaker on eBay. My daughter has one,and it is the best coffee I've ever tasted. My Bodum coffee however is weak, even though I use very heaping scoops of freshly ground coffee. I'm using the Cuisinart Burr coffee grinder to grind my beans. Would anyone know what setting to set it at using the Bodum Santos? Also, another problem is that coffee grounds are coming down the 'tube' at the end of the brewing cycle. Where as before, the 'explosion' occurred at the top of the plastic container [which is supposed to do], ours is now having an 'explosion' in the bottom of the coffeepot after all the coffee comes down the tube...We've been having to strain our coffee now before pouring it into coffee cups. Any ideas why this is happening? thanks, judy

I really wish that they would make this coffee maker again. There were elextrical dangers with it, mine would reboil if you didn't turn it off right away and I had to replace one bottom to it, but despite those things, I have loved this coffee pot more than any other and I wish that Bodum would improve it and give it another try!

Disolve Cascade dishwasher soap in very hot water(not liquid soap) and soak your coffee maker parts. The coffee oil should practically melt off before your eyes. Cascade will do the same thing to burned food on baking pans and skillets. Be generous with the soap and don't leave aluminum pans soaking for very long. They will discolor.

There is a proprietary coffeepot cleaner that is very effective in removing the film, but difficult to find and expensive. It contains soda ash, a chemical used to raise the ph in swimming pools, and can be purchased inexpensively any place pool supplies are sold. A tablespoon or two dissolved in cold water is adequate for the 12 cup machine. Run it through the regular cycle and follow with 2 rinse cycles.

You clean a coffee pot because the oils clinging to the sides of the pot create a bitterness in future brewings. This has been scientifically proven time and again!

I've had my Santos Electric Vacuum Coffee Maker for one and a half years and I've always cleaned the funnel with soap and water and I also bought a small brush to clean the pipe end. I don't have a scratch on it and the coffee is just as good as it was when I bought it.
